Devotional 98: Sweatless Victory
God wants to bless you. After much struggle and years of setbacks, it can be hard to believe that much can change. The world doesn't make your faith any easier. As far as the world is concerned, there is much to fear. Distractions, social upheaval, and rumors of war can make you wonder if it's worth it at all.
Your purpose in this season is more important than ever. The fire to rise, fight for what you love, and trust in the process is not optional. It's absolutely necessary. God is lighting a fire in his daughters to rise and stand on the all-consuming, everlasting word of the Lord.
The decree of "sweatless victory" may seem absolutely improbable and maybe even impossible. But 2 Kings Chapter 4 tells a different story. In it, we learn of a woman whose husband died without life insurance, without leaving an inheritance, and with debts heavy enough to cost his boys their freedom.
In an absolutely desperate situation and willing to do anything, she ran to the prophet Elisha and told him of her situation. After assessing what she had in her home, Elisha gave her specific instructions that required unusual faith and swift action. What happens next is stuff miracles are made of.
You may have heard the story. She poured from her little pot of oil until all of the vessels her sons could gather were full. You can read 2 Kings 4:1-7 for the full passage of scripture. But there are a few things you don't want to miss in this scripture.
Sweatless victory was only made possible for the woman and her sons because she had the discernment to know that she may not have had much but what she did have was of value. She figured, rightly so, that it wasn't enough to save her sons from being sold into slavery.
However, when she and her sons moved in faith and with speed to gather pots and pour, what she had was multiplied and didn't stop increasing until there was no longer a pot to be filled. Not by might, nor by power, but by God's spirit (Zechariah 4:6), her little became much more. Her victory was assured, not because she worked harder but simply because she believed enough to do something usual.
She took action. She showed up for herself and for her legacy. She moved outside of her own understanding and her situation changed immediately. Whether she considered herself a businesswoman or not - She took her oil to market and became debt free. She wasn't afraid to do something new to get something different.
Tonight, may your heart be comforted in this very thing... that He who began a good work in you will be faithful to finish it. It's not impossible. With God, all things are possible.
