Devotional 92: Remember When
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. - John 14:26 KJV
It's easy to get lost in what's happening at this moment. It's easy to forget the promises that God made and the instruction that He gave. It seems sometimes that life itself conspires to block you at every turn. We know that this simply isn't true. We know that we are loved by a good, good father. Bearing this in mind, in the heat of the moment, it is so easy to forget. It is easy to lose sight of the promises.
Take a moment right now to remember. Take a good look over your shoulder and be reminded of the faithfulness of God. Remember all that he has delivered you from. Every situation that caused you to truly consider if you would make it. It's easy to walk into the very things that we pray for and begin to take those things for granted. It is in fact human nature to grow comfortable.
Thanks be to God that he is not a man that he should lie nor the son of man that he should change his mind (Numbers 23:19). He remembers what He said. He knows all of the plans. We serve the God that keeps his promises. Take a few minutes right now to remember. Take comfort that no matter how long it has been, God will keep his promises.
Consider the word of the Lord concerning the father of our faith. From the words spoken by the Lord in Genesis 13:16 when Abraham was 75 to the time that his son Isaac was delivered in the earth in Genesis 21:2 - Abraham waited 25 years. Abraham and Sarah attempted to do it according to their own understanding and on their own personal timeline. Yet, this was not the will of God concerning them. They even went through a name change before seeing the promise of God fulfilled.
All of the years, the lack of faith, the control issues, and the disappointments did not change God’s mind. God kept his promise concerning Abraham. Likewise, God is going to keep his promises concerning you. Be still and remember. Focus on the present moment. Let go of the need to control this process. Be content while you wait. Worship God and know that He is the Lord our God and He is in control.
