Devotional 99: God Knows The Plans & Has Your World In His Hands
The Bible states that hope deferred makes the heart go faint. (Proverbs 13:12) The message version goes even further to say:
Unrelenting disappointment leaves you heartsick, but a sudden good break can turn life around.
It’s no wonder that it seems like one issue after another comes back to back. The saying that “when it rains, it pours” is an adequate description of the impact that disappointment has on our hearts, our courage, and our faith.
Tonight, take comfort in this: despite the disappointments and all of the things that are not going to way you hoped, God knows. He knows the plans. He knows where this is going to go. You may not know what’s next but God knows and He’s ordering your steps.
Proverbs 16:9 - A man's heart deviseth his way: but the Lord directeth his steps. KJV
What if all you hoped isn’t the fullness of what God has spoken over your life? What if it’s an unintentional and time-consuming detour keeping you from what He truly has for you? What if your hopes aren’t what God has chosen for you?
There is more. There is a sound calling you and the only way to hear it is to let go, be still, and know. Despite the disappointments, the delays, and the painful loses, He is God. (Psalm 46:10) He knows what He has for you, your loved ones, and your legacy.
Put your hope in God. Not in deadlines. Not in expected outcomes. Place your hope fully in God and in God alone. Nothing else is guaranteed. Our God is greater. He is faithful. He is all that you need.
When it comes to keeping you secure and safe in this season, rest in God. Follow that still small voice. Trust in His instruction and let go of the need for it to make sense. God is not predictable. He’s not always going to come in the time that you hope. Nor is He subject to human limitations.
Matthew 19:26 says that “… with God, all things are possible.”
Remember the story of Lazarus. Mary’s disappointment at the delay and subsequent death of her brother was evident when Jesus came days after Lazarus’ death. But we know that the delay was predestined for the glory of God to be revealed.
Maybe, where you are now is exactly where you need to be in this moment.
